Here in America, it's been a difficult week.
Maybe everyone has heard that a man named George Floyd was killed by a police officer.
Many people have been protesting. Most people protest peacefully, but some people wanted to make trouble and became violent. Some people broke into stores and stole things. The protestors and the criminals who stole were different people.
So what is a Protest?
People protest when they don't agree with something and they want to make some important change. Maybe they want to change a law or they want to make some change in our society.
Sometimes people feel it's important to communicate a point or message about a problem.
Protest can be a noun:
There was a protest against immigration laws.
Protest can also be a verb.
The college students protested the tuition increase.
Add -or to mean a person who protests: Protestor
The protestors blocked the streets downtown.
Protest can be used in other situations to mean a strong complaint.
She protested her parents decision to change her school,
She went to the new school under protest.
The word: Demonstrate is also used for this meaning.
Demonstration is noun

Demonstrator is person.
There have been many demonstrations in Hong Kong recently.
People around the world have used their voices to protest and demonstrate for thousands of years.
In America the treatment of African-Americans and other black and brown people has been a problem for hundreds of years.
